The American legal profession is arguably the most influential profession in American society.  For far too long, legal diversity has widely been embraced in principle but seldom realized in practice.  The Unity in Diversity Banquet was created to  make strides towards realizing diversity in the legal profession, as well as to celebrate our unique experiences, differences, and accomplishments that, together, make us stronger.

This event benefits diversity scholarships at the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law and diversity initiatives throughout the Memphis Legal Community.  It brings together hundreds of judges, lawyers, students, and business partners in the Memphis community to celebrate the many ways diversity, in its broad dimensions, enriches our colleges and universities, our city, and our nation and drives innovation and excellence, while highlighting a wide array of contributions and achievements to the field of diversity—paying particular attention to race, ethnicity, gender, LBGTQ status, and disability status.  Thanks to the generous support from organizations who are deeply committed to diversity, the Banquet has raised more than $100,000 to fund scholarships for diverse students at the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, propelling the next generation of lawyers into their careers with little to no debt.
